She is

Happy Mothers Day to all of the guiding lights.

The Other KLM

She is a porch light
Signaling my safe return
The useless umbrella
Before torrential storms
A protective vaccine
From what ravages the world

She is not a friend
Who enters and exits my life
She’s there when I need her
Even more when I think I don’t
She’s my defense attorney
And my corrections officer

She is the detour sign
Marked with orange barricades
She is a warm blanket and soft pillow
On cold winter nights
She is soft melting butter
On freshly-baked bread
