Apostrophe

Young man operating a vintage printing press, viewed from behind.
Behind the scenes: A young craftsman skillfully sets type at a vintage printing press, reviving traditional printing techniques.

Poor Apostrophe.
He always seems
To show up
In the wrong places.
Places he’d rather
not be.
But it’s not his fault.
He’s sent there,
Against his better judgment,
By unseasoned authors
Who misunderstand
His mission
and worth.

On other occasions
He’s absent.
Left off guest lists.
His presence
Could’ve
Would’ve
Should’ve
Been a priority.
But, alas,
His worth
Is miscalculated.
Misunderstood.
Misused.
