Beware

Beware of
artificial allies
who extend
a foot
that trips
as ambivalent eyes watch
you fall  beneath
express bus number six
departing
for the farthest
suburb
in the public
transit system
to protect
themselves from
consequences
of calculated
commotion

dirty tire tracks
stain unsuspecting backs
breaking belief
of bright futures
beyond today
but we will
stand and steady
ourselves
we will
endure the pains
and pressure
that therapy
demands
until
we are strong
enough to
stand on our own
anew
we will

Note: This is part of a story that I am currently writing. One of the characters currently feels betrayed and writes this as part of his healing. I hope to have the story completed soon for some peer reviews.

I really hate talking about myself, but if I have to... I’m K.L. McDaniel, the person behind TheOtherKLM. I’m an introvert with extrovert moments, a fitness-minded person fighting later-age fat, and someone trying to keep life somewhat organized without pretending it isn’t a mess. Here, I write about the things I keep coming back to: movement, mental health, learning, self-awareness, and the strange little contradictions that make people interesting. I’m not here to act like I have everything figured out. I’m here to think through it, laugh when possible, and maybe find a little balance in the middle of the clutter. So, that’s me. More or less.
