In clandestine veil of voting booth,
I mark my sincere choice, devoid of guile,
Amidst candidates’ rhetoric and toil,
Echoes a gentler, nobler truth.

But, whoah! This prompt, so fraught with flaws,
A binary query, lacking depth and grace,
No room for contemplation in its embrace,
Reduced to mere nods and pause.

Yet from flawed form, inspiration takes flight,
To sculpt a question with finesse and might,
To plumb depths of conscious thought,
And stir discourse until darkest night.

So, let us forge queries with precision keen,
To delve into psyche, explore unseen.

What fears, what hopes, what dreams, what despair,
Lie shrouded within voting booth’s embrace,
As you mark choices, what ideals you grace,
With values your vote does declare?

So, when final curtain draws on election’s stage,
What legacy shall crown your honored role?
Will you play your part, each sacred poll,
And pave paths to a brighter, kinder age?

Daily writing prompt
Do you vote in political elections?

I really hate talking about myself, but if I have to... I’m K.L. McDaniel, the person behind TheOtherKLM. I’m an introvert with extrovert moments, a fitness-minded person fighting later-age fat, and someone trying to keep life somewhat organized without pretending it isn’t a mess. Here, I write about the things I keep coming back to: movement, mental health, learning, self-awareness, and the strange little contradictions that make people interesting. I’m not here to act like I have everything figured out. I’m here to think through it, laugh when possible, and maybe find a little balance in the middle of the clutter. So, that’s me. More or less.
