January craves sun’s cool embrace.
February frost thaws as we chase
March steps into spring’s teasing song.
April dances along, waking
May in morning dew.
June greets solstice sun anew.
July heats up the pace, then
August showers relieve the place.
September chills as nights grow cold,
October leaves age red, orange, gold.
November nip moves days indoors.
December snow flutters…

Write Tight

Should it stay, or should it go?

Three questions to ask when deciding to keep or cut words in your writing:

  • Does it add meaning?
  • Does the line need it?
  • Does it slow the writing down?

The Writing Prompt?

I wrote this poem in response to a prompt about my favorite season. I don’t really have just one, so I wrote my way around it. How did I do?

I really hate talking about myself, but if I have to... I’m K.L. McDaniel, the person behind TheOtherKLM. I’m an introvert with extrovert moments, a fitness-minded person fighting later-age fat, and someone trying to keep life somewhat organized without pretending it isn’t a mess. Here, I write about the things I keep coming back to: movement, mental health, learning, self-awareness, and the strange little contradictions that make people interesting. I’m not here to act like I have everything figured out. I’m here to think through it, laugh when possible, and maybe find a little balance in the middle of the clutter. So, that’s me. More or less.
