May your Friday be cool like grass.
This Week’s Phrase
Cool like grass
Last spring, a student left a sticky note on my classroom door. It was part of a collection of positive affirmations, small words of kindness in scrawled handwriting and doodles.
Most said things like:
You matter.
You’ve got this.
Be yourself.
But one stood out, quiet and strange:
Cool like grass.
That’s all it said.
No signature. No explanation.
And I’ve been wondering ever since:
- What did they mean?
- Who is “cool like grass”?
- Was it about calm? Resilience? Just summer vibes?
This week, I’m passing that question on to you.

Your Friday Writing Challenge
Write a short poem, 6 to 13 lines, inspired by the phrase cool like grass.
You can:
Some questions to stir your creativity:
- Is cool a feeling, a compliment, a temperature?
- Is the grass literal or metaphorical?
- What or who else might be “cool like grass”?
You’re welcome to post your poem in the comments, share it on your own blog and link back, or tag me on Instagram (@kevymac).
