Don’t you find it a little bit odd,
How we are conditioned
To think
Poetry must dive deep
Into the mysterious abyss?
I mean, deep.
Really deep.
Over the years,
I’ve learned to appreciate
The charm found
In lightweighted words.
Imagine: a sprinkling spring rain,
Just enough to leave a puddle here,
Another puddle there.
Just enough
For joyful play
On a random spring day.
Jumping and splashing
With childlike rush.
It’s freeing, really,
To not worry about the muss
Under the surface.
Sometimes
A shallow splash is enough
To stir souls
And lighten heavy hearts.
No need to dive deep,
Searching and searching
For answers
To questions
That are never asked.
So, cherish the puddles,
Shallow and small.
And in them find relief.
After all,
Not every word
Must weigh a ton;
Sometimes the lightest whisper
Speaks just enough
And, then, it’s done.

I really hate talking about myself, but if I have to... I’m K.L. McDaniel, the person behind TheOtherKLM. I’m an introvert with extrovert moments, a fitness-minded person fighting later-age fat, and someone trying to keep life somewhat organized without pretending it isn’t a mess. Here, I write about the things I keep coming back to: movement, mental health, learning, self-awareness, and the strange little contradictions that make people interesting. I’m not here to act like I have everything figured out. I’m here to think through it, laugh when possible, and maybe find a little balance in the middle of the clutter. So, that’s me. More or less.
