I’m longing
for cold water springs
tripping down canyon creeks,
for birdsongs accompanying
mountain trail runs,
for air that carries
the sound of rebirth.
I crave
warm sun kisses,
freckled cheeks watching,
colorful kites catching
gentle wind,
open skies unfolding
a promise of play.
Our winter freeze
has lingered far too long,
has kept us indoors,
has doomed us to scrolling
through false memories
of better days.
It’s past time
we gather,
we collect,
we connect our common humanity,
we warm up
our frozen land.
