Bless This Mess

Two nights before Christmas
The house is a mess
Kids rattling wrapped presents
And trying to guess

What Gam Gam has purchased
And shipped overnight
While Dad with his laptop
Is trying to fight

A headache and tears
While paying the bills
For heating and water
Plus holiday thrills

Mom works in the kitchen
Baking all sorts of treats
To deliver to neighbors
Of Amity Street

Dad enters the room
To fetch him some water
That was sweetly demanded
By their youngest daughter

When will it be bedtime?
He asks to himself
Just one hour or two
Of time to myself?

Dad’s eyes meet Mom’s
They both force a smile
We do this to spread joy
That’s what makes it worthwhile

Two nights before Christmas
Mom and Dad feeling stress
Worrying ‘bout what they must do
To dig out of their mess

Up next: Dark and Stormy.

I really hate talking about myself, but if I have to... I’m K.L. McDaniel, the person behind TheOtherKLM. I’m an introvert with extrovert moments, a fitness-minded person fighting later-age fat, and someone trying to keep life somewhat organized without pretending it isn’t a mess. Here, I write about the things I keep coming back to: movement, mental health, learning, self-awareness, and the strange little contradictions that make people interesting. I’m not here to act like I have everything figured out. I’m here to think through it, laugh when possible, and maybe find a little balance in the middle of the clutter. So, that’s me. More or less.
