Why Dark and Stormy

Yes, the title is a cliché. That is my point.

I loved reading Peanuts comics growing up, especially the strips where Snoopy sat on top of his doghouse, typing away at his novel. Every attempt began the same way: It was a dark and stormy night. Over and over. Same opening. Same weather. Same stubborn belief that this time it might finally work.

Snoopy never gave up. He kept showing up. He kept writing, even when the words were familiar, even when the opening was mocked, even when the effort seemed ridiculous.

This poem leans into that spirit.

The repetition, the forecast language, the returning storm, they are intentional. This is not about originality for originality’s sake. It is about persistence. About facing the same conditions again and again and choosing to move anyway.

Sometimes the most honest way forward is not to reinvent the storm, but to step into it once more and say: Go.
