You stand
solid
surrounded
by bindweed
and goathead thorn.
Lesser
blooms
never
survive
sun-scorched
soil, yet
there you
thrive.
Arid winds dry
yet you still bloom.
Poetry Challenge:
Plant a Metaphor
Some blooms are more than flowers—they’re metaphors waiting to be written. Now it’s your turn.
Write your own metaphorical poem in 5 simple steps:
- Choose something natural.
A weed, a stone, a storm cloud, a wildflower; anything with texture and character. - Think beyond the obvious.
Ask: What could this represent? Is your vine a lie that grows? Is your moss a quiet memory? - Stick to a mood.
Courage, regret, longing, defiance… let the feeling shape your imagery and tone. - Use simple, strong language.
Don’t dress it up too much. Let the metaphor carry the weight. - End with impact.
Leave your reader with a moment, a twist, or a truth they’ll carry with them.
Post your poem or a link to it in the comments.
