Planned in the deepest
shades of white: off-white,
bone, bare, beige,
bleached of all
that makes life bright?
Boring!
One small window
tightly framed
looks out
where colors thrive:
leaves reach, minty sage;
blooms blaze, lavender,
rosy, yellow bright;
butterflies flutter, golden-winged;
sky opens, azure light.
The air out there,
sharp with pine,
cool with clover,
sweet watered soil.
But in here
filtered air
shouts over silence,
circulating safety,
reducing risk.
Everything
is dressed
in white
to appear
perfect.
But is it?
