Little Pansy

Don’t let his name fool you;
this little fighter roots in frost.
His purple petals, trimmed in yellow grit,
flash gold when courage flares.

He shrugs off snow like past regrets,
bending in wind but never breaking,
holding ground like stone in flood,
facing storms with uplifted face.

While others sleep, he dares to bloom,
rebelling quietly as ice slowly thaws,
outlasting blooms twice his size,
grinning through the cold with fiery eyes.

What Pansies Can Teach Us

The word “pansy” used to be meant as an insult, but that old stereotype never matched the truth. Pansies are some of the toughest flowers you’ll find. They root through frost, shrug off snow, and bloom when most others have given up. That’s real hardiness, the kind that survives harsh conditions without making a fuss. But pansies also carry a kind of heartiness. Their bold colors, bright faces, and quiet persistence show a strength that doesn’t need to prove itself. This poem grew from that contrast. People, like flowers, are often stronger than they look. Sometimes the ones who are overlooked or dismissed are the ones holding everything together. And sometimes it’s the quiet bloom, steady in the cold, that shows us what strength really looks like.
