A Time to Laugh
Disciples fished all night,
nets heavy with nothing.
“Try the other side,”
He called from shore.
They cast again,
nets bursting with silver.
“Leave it to Him,”
Peter shook his head,
grinning wide,
“to outfish the dead.”
Thomas stood, arms crossed,
eyebrows raised.
“I’ll believe when I see.”
Jesus held out
His hands.
“Touch
and see.”
Martha clattered pots,
stirred, salted, simmered.
Mary sat
still at His feet,
unhurried, unbothered.
“She’s doing nothing,”
Martha whined.
Jesus smiled.
“Sometimes
listening
is the better choice.”
Pharisees held coins,
cornered Him with questions,
waiting for a slip.
“Give to Caesar
what is Caesar’s,
but remember
whose image
you carry.”
Laughter filled the table,
bread breaking,
wine pouring.
Even as He spoke
of leaving.
They laughed, not knowing.
Joy made room
to breathe.
A time to laugh,
in times of waiting.
